I see you`ve omitted your mate Piroe
Ha ha, yes I have. I’ve nothing against him as a fella, but as a centre forward I look at him and think, “what exactly do you do?” I may scrutinise him more than some others on here, that’s probably because I played centre forward all my life. At youth level I played for Leeds City Boys and Yorkshire Amateurs where I partnered Peter Swan up front, who obviously went on to play for Leeds, and I later played up front in representative matches with ex Newcastle and Everton’s Jim Pearson. I’m sure they both watch him and think “what an absolute Fanny this fella is”. I got the same feeling from Stan Collymore on Tuesday. So the short answer is yes, I’d like Piroe gone asap.
What year were you at Leeds City Boys and YA if you don`t mind me asking?
I started at Yorkshire Amateurs about 1977 and Leeds City Boys shortly after. The same lads were in both teams to be honest. Me and Mick Adams were there from John Smeaton’s, Swanny was there, and then the likes of Ian Noteman, Mark Whaley, Gary Harland ( who made a good living out of golf later on) Ian Myers etc who all went on to play either semi pro or top level local amateur. The Ammers played where they always played at Bracken Edge, and we trained up at Temple Newsam. Leeds City Boys played up at Oldfield Lane, which later became the TV Harrison ground I think. I actually thought Mick Adams would be the best of the bunch, but Swanny was a late developer like me, and was pretty skinny as a kid. Obviously he turned out to be by far the best player and made a huge guy. My career went the same way as most lads from the estate’s in those days, mostly on the back of a liquid diet ha ha.
