It isn't as good as lifting 4 SL trophies, 2 WCC and 2 hubcaps as captain, winning the Lance Todd and Harry Sunderland trophies at Leeds, being the club's all time top goal-kicker and SL's all time leading point scorer, amassing over 1000 points along the way. But it's pretty good.

Ray Batten was a better footballer than both put together.

Oh Hanley wasn't a particularly good footballer, but he was one hell of a Rugby League player...

My brother taught Dave & Wayne Heron and Sonny Nickle at secondary school.

My Dad's teacher was none other than Mr Joe Warham, or so he tells me in his more sane moments...

....and I can confirm that Joe (or Mr Warham to us then) was a very good Maths teacher.

last years wembley 2010,we were in the very big queue for our coach at headingley and we were stood just behind Ray Batten, Albert Eyre and Alec Dick we were chatting away with them and they just sounded like fans.I cant see you getting that sort of thing in the FA Premiership

I do wish work wouldn't get in the way of posting on these threads!! Joe Warham taught me maths (he was a good mathematician but no more than an okay teacher!) He also was my school rugby coach for a while at Roundhay. My abiding memory of which was him laughing as I puked up during the first fitness session of the season.



Ray Batten was great but never got the recognition at international level he really deserved. IIRC he was around at the same time as Mal Reilly and Dougie Loughton in an era when we used to actually beat the Aussies at RL!



Having said that I guess I would have to rank Sinfield ahead of him simply in terms of his sustained success, leadership, kicking and distribution skills. But Batten was a joy to watch in terms of slieght of hand and amazing distribution skills
